Ritratto Essenziale

Concept

Essenza: “ciò per cui una certa cosa è quello che è, e non un’altra cosa”.
Accettando questa definizione, ho voluto indagare quanto di noi è determinato dagli eventi e quanto è tracciato già nel nostro essere. Ho guardato lo specchio, iniziando un viaggio indietro, cercando indizi, somiglianze, abitudini, mani che mi hanno stretto e sostenuto, sorrisi, lacrime asciugate, persone perdute, caratteri ereditati.
Particelle di materia che si sommano plasmando chi diventeremo.
Rimangono in noi.
Ci resta tutto.

And, around me, comes the light

Concept

In a world that makes us prisoners, that doesn’t seem to want us anymore, imagination is what makes me free. I take my snapshots, remove the emulsion and through the manipulation and incision of the back I can scratch the veil of reality. I leave home, I go elsewhere.
Looking carefully, I find in the little things of every day, details, visions and clear images.
And, around me, comes the light.

This is my work for “INTORNO A NOI”, the collective photographic project by Officine Creative Italiane and Gruppo Fotografico Grandangolo, shown online at FacePhotoNews 2020.

In 2020 “AND, AROUND ME, COMES THE LIGHT” receives the honorable mention at the 5th edition of Portfolio sul Po of Torino Foto Festival.

Ti vedo camminare sul filo

Ho passato un periodo della mia vita guardandomi intorno, immobile, senza agire, come un funambolo a metà impresa.

Mi stavo annientando in un nucleo che non riconoscevo.

Poi ho rivolto lo sguardo verso di me, ho riscoperto il mio orizzonte e la possibilità di scegliere il meglio, di essere il meglio.

Perché al di là di tutto c’è una vita meravigliosa.

Ti vedo camminare sul filo
a centomila passi da qui

equilibrista di una vita che non sai più se t'appartiene

guardi giù
a ricordarti che sei senza rete

guardi avanti
un filo che appare senza fine ti aspetta

poi guardi su
al bianco al giallo all'azzurro

a ricordarti chi sei perché sei sospeso lassù

allora allarghi le braccia

fissi gli occhi all'orizzonte

è la tua vita quella sospesa sul filo

a centomila passi da qui

è la tua vita

e tu vai.

Where dreams go when we wake up

Ephemeral fragments of us,
without space or time;

some without memory
remain veiled in a sensation
that persists over time.

Others are part of a thousand worlds,

hopes that become light,

nightmares that see you with closed eyes,

imaginary lives,

memories from the past.

In the dream we become immortal,
we are giants or small atoms,

we are ourselves or perhaps someone else,

we are light and even dark,

we are desires and fears.

We are, in our infinite and eternal totality.

Awards

In 2019 “WHERE DREAMS GO WHEN WE WAKE UP” receives the honorable mention at the FacePhotoNews of Sassoferrato “10th Portfolio della Strega”. In the same year it ranks the 3rd place in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana at the “18th Portfolio dell’Ariosto”, sixth stage of Portfolio Italia 2019.

The work becomes an audiovisual one and is selected for screening during the national conference of the DIAF (FIAF Audiovisual Department) of October 2019.

Me and She

My family from the first moments of existence is my sister.

Marta and I are twins.

When we were kids all the games were double, then we learned to divide them by two. In the years we danced, we were “Le Gemi”, identical and synchronized.
Growing up, we started trying to assert our identity.
Only those who really know us know that many times we like the same things, but we are truly different in our relationships with others. I am more diffident, she is more open and reflective.
I am drastic, she is moderate. I can’t stand her perfumes, she can’t stand my carelessness.

Concept

“Among the prime numbers there are some even more special.
The mathematicians call them prime twins: they are pairs of prime numbers that are close, even almost close, because between them there is always an even number that prevents them from touching each other.”

We can be symmetrical, but never identical.

This work was published in the national book for the collective photographic project “La Famiglia in Italia”.
The photographs were exhibited at Cifa Bibbiena during the national exhibition and at Palazzo della Penna for the regional exhibition relating to the project.
